When thousands of miles surrounding you are burning and black and filled with smoke and you are standing alone in the middle of it all on just a patch of grass, remember this: that scrap of green is your defensible ground—your hope and your salvation. Win, lose, or draw, you own that turf.

That bit of territory is yours and is whatever you choose to make it. It’s your career, family, wants, desires, accomplishments, dreams, goals, and reality. And it’s yours to tend. Don’t wait or expect anyone else to magically appear and make it exactly as you desire. It’s yours. Your turf. Your grass. Your weeds. Your hope. Your strength. Your beliefs. Your life. Don’t allow anyone to kill, destroy, or take it from you. At the (mortal) end of it all, you are your own best friend, your own last hope. Never let go. Never give up. What will be, whatever might be—you influence.

Know this, (as it remains true whenever and wherever you are in life): The area around you doesn’t have to be ablaze to learn these lessons. In fact, light your own fire. Dream big, follow your ambitions and desires, and strive toward your goals before something or someone else attempts to take control and burn your life down. Your forest must be ablaze within you or those lessons will forever be unknown to you. Light your passion, follow your dreams, keep your fire burning.

“The problem with staying in your comfort zone is that the things you want to do, achieve, and experience are all on the other side of the wall.”

~ Michael
